Self love is a journey not a destination
I imagine this applies to everyone, but as they say.. speak from experience, and since I become a mom I always put myself last in my “To Do List”: the kids, the house, work, everyone else then, if there is any time left: me… so I need to remind myself to keep practicing so that I can teach my kids by setting a good example how to be happier, more confident and a more fulfilled person looking IN not OUT.
Self-love is an important aspect of our overall well-being and happiness. It means accepting and appreciating ourselves for who we are, flaws and all, if I can teach my kids something, let it be this: when we practice self-love, we become more confident, resilient, and capable of giving and receiving love to others.
Here are 10 tips to keep close when practicing self-love:
- Be kind to yourself: Treat yourself with the same kindness, compassion, and understanding you would offer to your kids, partner or a good friend.
- Celebrate your achievements: No matter how small they may seem, take the time to acknowledge and celebrate.
- Practice self-care: Take care of your physical, emotional, and mental health through activities such as exercise, healthy eating, and relaxation.
- Surround yourself with positivity: Surround yourself with people who love, support, and uplift you, and expose yourself to environments that make you feel good about yourself, walk away from what does not makes you happy
- Learn to forgive: Let go of grudges and anger towards others but more importantly, stop with the harmful self-criticism instead work on embracing self-forgiveness.
- Embrace your individuality: even since my children were very little we have been teaching them to embrace their unique qualities, talents, and interests because that is what make you who you are.
- Practice gratitude: Take time each day to reflect on the things in your life that you're thankful for, including yourself, this always put things in a very different perspective
- Set boundaries: Learn to say no to things and people that don't align with your values and priorities.
- Pursue your passions: Do things that bring you joy and fulfillment, whether it's a hobby or a career.
- Make time for yourself!
Easier said than done you might say… but… Not really! … start small, pick one thing from the list and work on that today, tomorrow pick another and make it a daily habit such as wake up, make the bed, brush your teeth, love yourself!
